Attendance Required for Holding Troop Positions
Troop positions are required for advancement. To maintain their position, each scout must limit the amount of times he misses.
A scout can have no more than 3 unexcused absences in a 6-month period. He will lose his position in the troop if he exceeds 3 unexcused absences.
A Scout cannot have more than to absences, (excused or unexcused), in a sixth month period. He will lose his position in the troop if he exceeds 10 total absences.
If a scout is going to miss a scout meeting he needs to let the senior patrol leader or scoutmaster know. No reason is needed except that he can’t make it.
Why are we doing this?
Scouts teach skills for life. When they have a job and don’t show up, they won’t have employment for long. Scouting is trying to prepare them for the working world.
If they take multiple days off from a job, excused or otherwise, his employer will look to replace him as they need someone they can count on.
Help us instill values into your boy that will help him prepare for future employment as he gets older. Please help him keep his commitments to the troop. We realize that sports, school and other interests may conflict.
What about sports or other interests
We recognize that Scouting is not the only interest your son has. Please don’t worry if your son misses scouts for a period of time due to sports or other activities he may be involved in.
Please have your son let the Senior Patrol Leader and Scoutmaster know the dates he will be missing scouts.
The only thing this may affect is any leadership roles he has. This is because he won’t be able to perform his leadership roles while he is out of Scouting for a period of time.
He will be re-instated into a leadership position when his sports or other activities have ended.
